Catching Up

After the big splash last week, I’ve hardly had time to do enough follow up with the tremendous response, so I’ll do my best to get a few posts here and do just what the title says.

Part of growing a community effort include managing the flow of information, and I wanted to record my thought process at this point in time because I’ve been around for long enough to see some major shifts in how this is performed. Here’s the trends I’ve seen come (and go):

* Usenet News Group
* Mailing List
* Web Forum/BB
* Wiki
* Blog (we’re here, obviously)

The easiest way to centralize updates and record the evolution of an idea online seems to be a blog. Participants can post comments, anyone can opt-in for notifications, and progress can be visualized.

So, here we go! :)

    I like the wiki idea for things like faq and specs so long as they are really community driven. If you are looking to maintain close control, don’t bother. I currently run tikiwik, which includes a large number of content types (wiki, blogs, articles, etc), that could be combined to provide a support site. (see http://www.voip-info.org)
